“SPY x FAMILY CODE: White” Movie Review by Rafy Mediavilla (@Rmediavilla) #SpyXFamilyCodeWhte
He’s a spy. She’s an assassin. Together, Loid and Yor keep their double lives to themselves while pretending to be the perfect family. However, their adopted daughter Anya, a telepath, knows both of their exciting secrets unbeknownst to them. While under the guise of taking his family on a weekend winter getaway, Loid’s attempt to make progress on his current mission Operation Strix proves difficult when Anya mistakenly gets involved and triggers events that threaten world peace!
Storywise the movie is basically divided into two episodes, The first half of the movie is all about Loid and Yor questioning their relationship, and the second half is all about trying to gather all the ingredients to teach Anya an award-worthy dessert, and rescue Anya after she ate a key ingredient the bad guys need before she ruins their plans, while Loid continues to fulfill his spy job.
I loved that the movie does not force spectators to watch the animated series, but it does a great job of giving us a crash course of what the characters are all about in the prologue of the movie. The movie is a fun watch, it does not take itself seriously which I feel its what makes the series work. I loved how the movie felt like a Mission Impossible movie. If anything I loved that for most part of the movie the story is focused on Anya since she is carrying, without entering into spoilers, the key for both the bad guys to get their plan going, and for Loid to complete his job.
Honestly, even if you aren’t a fan of the series, or haven if you have never seen an episode of the series the movie just works. It is funny, entertaining, and action-packed when it needs to be. Is it a must-watch theater experience? No. But when it comes to the story is a fun one that geeky couples will enjoy as a movie date.
