“Jurassic World Dominion” Movie Review by Rafy Mediavilla (@Rmediavilla). #JurassicWorld #JuarassicWorldDominion
Four years after the destruction of Isla Nublar, dinosaurs now live–and hunt–alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures in a new Era.
Jurassic World Dominion should mark the end to the Colin Trevorrow trilogy, but it was also built and grand finale to the Jurassic Park saga a whole. With this out of the way, I have to say Dominions feels more like a sequel to Jurassic Park that and actual sequel to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which that right there is a huge problem. If I’m just judging this trilogy alone, Dominion is the best entry of the Jurassic World franchise but much like I said in my reaction mostly because of the inclusion of the original Jurassic Park cast members.
The story feels completely disconnected between the two casts. The Jurassic Park crew start off the adventure trying to seemly undo everything that was started in Jurassic Park, where now we have dinosaurs living among humans, and trying to adapt to an unknown constantly changing environment. The Jurassic World crew is this in exact environment, living among Dinosaurs while safe keeping a piece of the puzzle that in the end undo’s everything that was done since Jurassic Park. And between them we have an evil Steve Jobs wannabe, that wants to use the dinosaurs and leverage to take over the world.
So, what really works with Dominion? Well, the original cast, and basically all the easter eggs/nods to the original Jurassic Park movie. The movie is full of spots where you will fully have Déjà vu moments from the Jurassic Park movie. I can ever go as far as saying Dominion is the Jurassic Park script but in reverse. As we see the original cast trying to infiltrate evil Steve Jobs company to steal a DNS sequence so they can undo all the bad his has already done, and somehow contain the outbreak of Dinosaurs. Jeff Goldblum was the MVP of this movie. The sarcastic tone to whom Dr. Ian Malcolm went about thought out the story regardless of what was going in on seem funny enough that it just made you chuckle.
Now what about the Jurassic World cast? Their side of the story mostly worked because of the never-ending action-packed scenes. The dinosaurs’ chases felt like something out of James Bond or Mission Impossible movies. They were fun, entertaining, and did their job at keeping us and the edge of our seat. But ultimately all they where doing is trying to rescue a kid before the evil Steve Jobs got to her, which honestly made them look pointless story wise.
As a grand finale Jurassic World Dominion disappoints because really do anything with the franchise. Yes, we got to see the original cast come back together one last time. And maybe for them it was truly the grand finale they deserve for the grand vision of Jurassic Park story wise. But I really wish to have seen more from these two casts. Once we see them together all of time kind ends extremely fast and in an obvious way.
Ultimately the movie is a fun, action-packed, good times at the movies for all families to enjoy. But is not the grand finale fans of the franchise had hope for.
