Interview by Rafy Mediavilla with Patrick Star’s Family voice actors Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick Star), Jill Talley (Squidina Star), and Dana Snyder (GrandPat) about Nickelodeon SpongeBob SquarePants “The Tidal Zone”. Premiering Friday, January 13 on Nickelodeon!
SpongeBob SquarePants Presents The Tidal Zone is a journey into an hour of television where two dimensions can become three, and French divers can wear black ties. Observe a tale of both comedy and caution, of satire and stupidity. Minds may switch, bodies may shrink, and robots may rise in…”The Tidal Zone.”
Criticólogos:
If you personally had to choose a specific scenario of The Tidal Zone to get stuck in, which one would it be and why?
Bill Fagerbakke:
Well, I would want to be a little cute roller shoe. I would want to be that. I just I live in a roller skate and just have control over my skate and just scoot around and be the smartest one in the room. That’s pretty cool. Oh, no. Although, I guess. Yeah.
Jill Talley:
I was going to say that because I actually know I think Karen in Patrick’s body would be really fun to be because you’d fool everyone into thinking you weren’t bright, and then you’d wow them with your smarts. So that would be, you know all the answers.
Dana Snyder:
I think I’d just want to be still on in my VR headset rolling, running people over in my scooter, which I was having a fine time by myself. And then everything happened and then they got 45 more minutes after.
Criticólogos:
What specific characteristic of your Star character is the thing that helps them survive The Tidal Zine?
Jill Talley:
Okay, well, Squidina Star is just a little powerhouse. I mean, she is the might. She’s kind of the brains of the operation. I feel like, oh, grandpa is probably the brains of the operation. But she’s cagey. So, I feel like she’s a scrappy little survivor. That’s just her nature. You know, She’s a boss. So that’s probably why she always comes out on top. So, yeah.
Dana Snyder:
Grandpa is not in charge of the operations because he has no interest in the operation. He’s just liked a mole that keeps coming back no matter how many times you remove it. He’s just like they’re like a rash that even if you’re done with it, you’re still there at some point, right?
Bill Fagerbakke:
Patrick is just, you know. He’s guileless. So, it’s not an issue. If he feels threatened or confused, he can just look for something to eat. So, you know, it’s all going to be fine and everything’s going to be fine, and let’s just play our way through this.
Criticólogos:
Getting into the mindset of the characters. With this specific crossover event does that process changes it between making the standards episodes into coming into this specific event?
Jill Talley:
The hardest part for me was trying to do Patrick, you know, try to do that but hopefully, I did okay you know. I don’t know We’ll find out on January 13th on Nickelodeon.
Dana Snyder:
I didn’t know we were doing different shows. I had no clue is going on. I’m like, they just put me in a corner and put padding on me, so I don’t hurt myself. But those bumpers on everything, like when you have a kid in the house.
Bill Fagerbakke:
They’ll, you know, we’re so in the weeds on, on really just trying to make moments work. One word, one word playing the characters, that’s really it. We can’t speak on to large scale because you’re just going beat to beat. We want it to be filled with life and everything the scene requires. So, that’s lucky for that because none of us knew what was happening.
