Interview by Rafy Mediavilla w/ Peacock “Vampire Academy” stars Anita-Joy Uwajeh, Rhian Blundell, & Mia Mckenna-Bruce. Where we spoke about their characters, & Julie Plec adaptation. Out Now On PeacockTV!
From executive producers Julie Plec & Marguerite MacIntyre comes a story of friendship, romance and danger. In a world of privilege and glamour, two young women’s friendship transcends their strikingly different classes as they prepare to complete their education and enter vampire society. One as a powerful Royal, the other a half-vampire Guardian trained to protect against the savage ‘Strigoi’ who threaten to tear their society apart. That is, if Royal infighting doesn’t do the job first.
Criticólogos:
How much of the source material from that novel, you knew or she gave you coming into the series with your characters?
Mia Mckenna-Bruce:
Okay. So I was a fan of the books first, but basically Julie and Margaret’s vision with this show is going bigger and better. Like, it’s literally like, here’s an amazing story. Let’s now involve everyone in this and make everyone a part of this and make it just phenomenal. So I think they’ve really achieved that 100%. Oh, I mean.
Anita-Joy Uwajeh:
I echo everything that Mia said, like I think they had. They have such an amazing foundation to work from with the book, and they have just taken it to another level. They’ve allowed what the books are, really gives them these amazing characters, and then started to investigate all of them rather than just maybe pinpointing, you know, one or two. So, yeah, it’s yeah, that’s probably the best way.
Rhian Blundell:
And I think what was really cool is that I think Julia Margaret had a very like strong and clear vision going into it. Also, that vision was, was able to grow and develop with us. And as time went on, as, and the more we got to see these characters come to life like it was a very organic thing that’s happening.
Criticólogos:
You could switch places with other cast members, with their characters, which one would it be and why? Because there are a lot of characters here and there are a lot of fun stuff happening.
Mia Mckenna-Bruce:
Oh, oh, this is such a great question. What character would I switch with, Dmitri? I think because he has a really interesting stoicism about the way in which I think would be. I’ve never done anything like that before. I have a lot of energy, so I don’t know if you can tell. I’d love to do something like that, but also get to do a really action filled role. And his is very action film, so why not? I can be big and strong.
Anita-Joy Uwajeh:
Who would I switch with? Go. This is really hard. It’s really hard because I really enjoy who I play and doesn’t want to get to. Yeah. Oh, God, J August character. Because I also love that he has like a whole family. And so that would be lovely. And I was like, his character is so complex. Like he oh, he has his that times can be quite a contradiction and that is just delicious to play.
Rhian Blundell:
I am, I would love that our queen might be the coolest queen on screen. I but I also know I could probably never do it justice the way that it’s been done at the moment. And do you know how I would really want to do Alberta, Jennifer Kirby she and she’s so cool and she’s so I don’t know it’s just that that position of power.
