Hulu’s “Tell Me Lies” Season 2 – Interview’s with actress Sonia Mena and Alicia Crowder.

Tell Me Lies Season 2 picks up as Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White) return to college, not speaking after their dramatic breakup at the start of the summer. Yet while very much at odds, they find themselves in a new version of their addictive dynamic – which is as infuriating as it is inescapable. Meanwhile, the story expands deeper into the lives of Lucy and Stephen’s friend group, as the fallout from Season One impacts all of their lives in unexpected ways.

Criticólogos:

Sonia let’s talk about Pippa. Pippa is going through a lot. And there’s this susceptible subject that we cannot dive into, and it’s tough to dive into, but people will relate to it, and it’s also found it difficult to open up to anyone about it. What type of advice would you give them to those people that would relate to that situation?

Sonia Mena:

Oh, well, that’s a good question. I don’t know that I’m necessarily in a place to give anybody advice about that. It’s so specific to like who you are and what you’re going through. But, yeah, I just would hope that people have at least one person that they feel that they can connect to and talk to.

Criticólogos:

If Pippa were in their shoes, what do you think she would tell them?

Sonia Mena:

Yeah, I think, Pippa was not processing what was happening to her. And so, I mean, realistically, if there was a scene in which Pippa was talking to someone, she would probably shut down and pretend it wasn’t happening. But I think that we see the most of Pippa when she’s having a moment to connect to somebody, and we mostly see her struggling to not be able to do that. And so, and I think that causes her a lot of pain. Yeah.

Criticólogos:

You mentioned something about reaching out to people and how important that is to do in a situation. And I see all through the season we see Diana and Pippa are trying to reach out to each other and I love that because we see them reach out, but we don’t reach out fully. We always see them try to get there. So, I wonder, what was something about the relationship that you guys would have loved to expand upon in any upcoming season?

Alicia Crowder:

Yeah, I think with Diana and Pippa’s relationship just laying it all on the table, which I don’t think that any character does. Like where you see them in 2015, they probably have had those conversations. Just being honest about everything that happened, like up to the point where they did become friends and then afterward. Seeing that on screen would be nice, I think because we never get that.

Pippa confronts Diana at least a couple of times, you know, saying, like, Stephen’s like a bad guy, and I never validate her. So that would also be nice to see that, too. Like Diana coming to terms with that, with Pippa’s help being like, you’re right, he is a bad guy.

Sonia Mena:

Yeah, I think there is a rare thing in that they are making these very genuine, reaches towards each other. And it’s fascinating to watch it continually misfire. And the few moments when it does connect, it’s like very I think it kind of jars them both. And I think it’s very fun to continue if we go back for season three to watch that happen. Because clearly at some point they do connect, and to see how they find that I think will be very, very cool. Yeah!

Criticólogos:

Alicia, you just mentioned something regarding this question right now, but maybe expand on that. Why is it that Diana refuses to see the reality behind Steven, why is it throughout the season she always refuses to see his true colors of Stevens?

Alicia Crowder:

I think that she’s in denial, and I think that Diana is someone who does not fail. And, you know, recognizing faults in her partner would be a massive failure, someone that she’s been with for years and has invested so much time and resources in. And I think she truly loves him. You know, she like she truly, truly loves and is in love with someone. And it’s those like rose-colored glasses. And thinking that he has the potential to change, but like, she knows that he’s rough around the edges, but those that just couldn’t be smoothed out, you know, by her. So yeah.
