Emotionally charged and internationally acclaimed, Award-winning documentary filmmaker Laura Plancarte’s NON WESTERN makes much anticipated US premiere at Cinequest 2021.

Film screens in the official documentary competition at the festival, running March 20-30th.

Renowned Mexican documentary filmmaker Laura Plancarte (Hermanos-Siblings,Tierra Caliente) returns to the screen with another emotionally charged exploration of family & cultural/social complexities affected by history, race, gender and religion on a journey to heal the deep wounds of the past and present.

Having it’s World Premiere at Visions du Réel 2020 and selected for the Best of Fests at IDFA 2020, NON WESTERN now makes its long awaited US premiere as part of the documentary feature competition at the 2021 Cinequest Film and Creativity Festival, happening virtually from March 20th -30th. NON WESTERN follows a Native/Non Native couple in Montana, ahead of their wedding. We see the challenges their interracial family face, and through their struggles we witness the impact their childhood trauma has had on them, exploring gender and identity issues that are present in Montana’s society.
