(San Juan, Puerto Rico) – El “New York Latino Film Festival” (NYLFF) se complace en presentar su festival de cine insignia en el Caribbean Cinemas VIP, localizado en el Distrito T-Mobile en San Juan, Puerto Rico, del 31 de octubre al 2 de noviembre de 2024, auspiciado por la Autoridad Distrito del Convenciones de Puerto Rico.
Para el evento, los asistentes pueden esperar una programación de excelentes proyecciones de películas, paneles de la industria con la participación de talentos locales y creadores de contenido, eventos especiales de networking, entre otros interesantes temas de la industria.
Con el vibrante telón de fondo del centro cultural de Puerto Rico, Distrito T-Mobile dentro del Distrito de Convenciones de Puerto Rico, el NYLFF San Juan celebrará y amplificará las muchas contribuciones de la comunidad cinematográfica local además, de exhibir lo que los cineastas han creado en la industria cinematográfica. LO MÁS DESTACADO DE NYLFF SAN JUAN
El NYLFF San Juan presentará una interesante selección de películas en diversos formatos, incluidos largometrajes, documentales y cortometrajes de Estados Unidos y América Latina. El Festival se inaugura con una proyección especial de la muy esperada película de Netflix Emilia Pérez (2024, 130 min., EE. UU.), protagonizada por el elenco de ganadoras del premio a la mejor actriz en Cannes, Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gómez y Adriana Paz. Este musical es la historia de la poderosa abogada Rita (Zoe Saldaña) que asume una misión inesperada: ayudar a un líder de un cartel mexicano (Gascón) a fingir su muerte y someterse a operaciones de reasignación de sexo. Pimpinero: Sangre y Gasolina (2024, 132 min., Colombia) de Amazon MGM Studios presenta un apasionante thriller que se desarrolla en el desierto que que se encuentra entre la frontera de Colombia y Venezuela, donde los contrabandistas de gasolina o pimpineros arriesgan sus vidas transportando combustible ilegal con el debut actoral del artista y compositor Juanes. Entre las menciones notables se incluye el estreno mundial de Bella (2024, 100 min., Puerto Rico) del director Bruno Irizarry, una historia sobre el viaje de Carlos y Marena para adoptar un bebé en medio de la crisis de COVID. Después de emplear todos los medios posibles para concebir, conocen a un abogado que se especializa en encontrar padres para embarazos no deseados con la esperanza de encontrar la pieza faltante para traer alegría a sus vidas. Érase Una Vez En El Caribe (2024, 140 min., Puerto Rico)de Ray Figueroa se desarrolla en Puerto Rico en los años 1930s, cuando los estadounidenses compraban cada pedazo de tierra disponible y tomaban lo que querían. Jr. Walker quiere a Pura como su esposa, por lo que envía a sus hombres a secuestrarla, pero lo que no sabía es que el esposo de Pura es un capataz temido que se enfrentará a todos los secuaces de Jr. Walker para recuperarla, incluidos viejos rivales. Nochebuena (2024, 74 min., EE. UU.) del director Adam Lopez cuenta la historia de Junior, quien después de 15 años regresa a su hogar para Navidad en Florida y se reencuentra con “la que se escapó”: Jennifer. Rodeado de las ricas tradiciones de su cultura, Junior se transporta a los recuerdos de su adolescencia y recuerda lo que es importante. Desde República Dominicana, el director Yoel Morales presenta La Bachata de Bionico (2024, 80 min., República Dominicana), la historia de amor de Bionico, un romántico empedernido adicto al crack, que junto a Calvita, su compañera de drogas, intenta conseguir un trabajo, una casa y un anillo de bodas para casarse con La Flaca, su prometida. Una historia de relaciones fallidas y la importancia de las amistades.
Además, el NYLFF San Juan presenta ‘Enviando amor a la isla’, una proyección de cortometrajes premiados que se filmaron en la isla y todos fueron dirigidos por cineastas puertorriqueños. Entre ellos se encuentran: Ceiba Y Sus Raíces Taínas, de la directora Brithney Rivera (4 min.); Mara Tiene Tres Trabajos en San Juan, Puerto Rico (11 min.)y Te Llaman Las Olas (11 min.), ambas dirigidas por Ana Verde; Punta Salinas (16 min.) de la directora María del Mar Rosario; Primos (22 min.) dirigida por Ricardo J. Varona; Hija del Mar (19 min.) de la directora Alexis García; y Melao (24 min.) de la directora Val Vega.

ACERCA DE LA AUTORIDAD DEL DISTRITO DE CONVENCIONES DE PUERTO RICO (PRCDA)
PRCDA es una corporación pública creada bajo la Ley Número 351 del 2 de septiembre de 2000, según enmendada. El desarrollo del Distrito se lleva a cabo mediante el esfuerzo conjunto del gobierno con el sector privado. El sector público estableció los parámetros de desarrollo, llevó a cabo la planificación de esta nueva área de la ciudad, obtuvo los permisos necesarios y proporcionó la infraestructura básica necesaria para cada proyecto. El PRCDA ocupa 154 acres en el corazón de San Juan. Fue construido en el terreno que anteriormente ocupaba la Base Naval de Miramar. NYLFF San Juan will present an exciting line-up of films in various forms, including feature, documentary, and shorts from the United States and Latin America. The Festival opens with a special screening of Netflix’s highly anticipated film Emilia Pérez (2024, 130 min., USA), starring the ensemble of Cannes Best Actress winners, Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez and Adriana Paz. This musical is the story of high-powered lawyer Rita (Zoe Saldaña) who takes on an unexpected assignment: helping a Mexican cartel leader (Gascón) fake their death and undergo sex-reassignment operations. Amazon MGM Studios’ Pimpinero: Blood and Oil (2024, 132 min., Colombia) presents a gripping thriller that takes place in the treacherous desert bordering Colombia and Venezuela, where gasoline smugglers or pimpineros risk their lives transporting illegal fuel with the acting debut of artist and songwriter Juanes. Notable mentions include the world premiere of director Bruno Irizarry’s Bella (2024, 100 min., Puerto Rico), a tale of Carlos and Marena’s journey to adopt a baby in the middle of the COVID crisis. After employing all means possible in order to conceive they meet a lawyer who specializes in finding parents for unwanted pregnancies in the hopes of finding the missing piece to bring joy to their lives. Ray Figueroa’s Once Upon a Time in the Caribbean (2024, 140 min., Puerto Rico) is set in 1930’s Puerto Rico, when Americans were buying every piece of land available and taking what they wanted. Jr. Walker wants Pura for his wife, so he sends his men to kidnap her, but what he didn’t know was that Pura’s husband is a feared foreman who will take on all of Jr. Walker’s henchmen to get her back, including old rivals. Nochebuena (2024, 74 min., USA) by director Adam Lopez tells the tale of Junior, who after 15 years returns home for Christmas in Florida, and is reunited with ‘the one that got away’ Jennifer. Surrounded by the rich traditions of his culture, Junior is transported to memories of his adolescence and is reminded of what is important. From the Dominican Republic, director Yoel Morales presents Bionico’s Bachata (2024, 80 min., Dominican Republic), the love story of Bionico, a hopeless romantic addicted to crack, who, along with Calvita, his drug partner, tries to find a job, a house, and a wedding ring to marry La Flaca, his fiancée. A tale of failed relationships, and the importance of friendships.

Varona; Daughter of the Sea (19 min.) by director Alexis Garcia; and Melao (24 min.) by director Val Vega.

ABOUT THE PUERTO RICO CONVENTION DISTRICT AUTHORITY (PRCDA)
PRCDA is a public corporation created under Law Number 351 of September 2nd of 2000, as amended. The District development is carried out through the joint efforts of the government with the private sector. The public sector established development parameters, carried out the planning of this new area of the city, obtained the necessary permits and provided the necessary basic infrastructure for each project. The PRCDA occupies 154 acres in the heart of San Juan. It was built in the land formerly occupied by the Miramar Naval Base. A new community with residential area, offices, shopping and entertainment establishments and facilities for civic or cultural activities.
