“Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero” – Movie Review by Rafy Mediavilla (@Rmediavilla).

The Red Ribbon Army was once destroyed by Son Goku. Individuals, who carry on its spirit, have created the ultimate Androids, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. These two Androids call themselves “Super Heroes”. They start attacking Piccolo and Gohan… What is the New Red Ribbon Army’s objective? In the face of approaching danger, it is time to awaken, Super Hero!

I believe it’s no secret that I’m not a fan of Dragon Ball Z that I do not have or have not watched the animated series or have read any other of the comic or the manga but coming into this movie I was really excited because when Dragon Ball super Broly came out I really did enjoy that movie even though I really have no clue beyond general knowledge of pop culture of who these characters were. meaning that when I came out of watching Broly I really enjoyed the movie the story the fight and everything because really it was just an introduction to Broly in the essence of the franchise.

But with Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero my experience was a little bit different. Clearly this movie is focused on characters that fans know and love, this story is mostly focused on Gohan and Piccolo, which meant in my opinion that mostly fans of the franchise that know these characters deeply their personas their characteristics those are the target audience for this specific movie. Which meant that once I finally watched the whole movie, I had to do some research before I dive in into really writing a “review” for this movie.

Which it means mostly I’m focusing my review on the standalone story of this movie, the overall arc of it, the graphics, the fight scenes, and everything in between. Story wise I believe fans of the fingers going to enjoy it because they’re going to see something different if not the main characters being the main focus of the story but secondary characters in my opinion which I think is a welcome change.

Much like this synopsis describes a common fall from Goku’s past returns and Piccolo and Gohan must team up to defeat them. Which that right there tells me I have no clue who these people are, so I just got to sit down I just enjoy the ride and story wise that’s what I did. But my problem was when I compared to Broly even though I didn’t really know how we got there, this one really didn’t do anything for me. In the end it just felt like a extended Dragon Ball Z Super episode.

Now that we got the whole story side out of the way I’m going to focus on the fight scenes and the graphics I know that a lot of people complain about the CGI they used for this movie, but I really didn’t find it bad. I felt the GGI and the whole way they animated this movie work for the story for what they were trying to do, they didn’t want to replicate what they did with Broly they wanted to go in a different way And to me it worked.

Regarding the fight scenes they were OK, they were good, they were not as EPIC as Broly and I think that for the exception oof that last third act, that EPIC ending which is the thing that I like the most about the movie. The whole way they went about in constructing the story for the specific movie everything just worked.

Overall when it’s all said and done this is just a movie that you can watch once if you’re not a fan and forget about it and if you’re a fan you can watch it and also forget about it because in the end to me didn’t bring anything new or different to the franchise. if anything the sole purpose of the movie is to present a project that focuses on some other characters beyond the main ones but that’s about it.
