Deadpool & Wolverine: An absolute crowd-pleaser – Movie Review by Ana Sofia Cintrón (@ana_sofia53)
After years of anticipation, we’re gathered here to witness the result of Disney’s 2019 merger with 21st Century Fox. This monumental deal brought beloved franchises like X-Men, Deadpool, and The Fantastic Four into Disney’s fold, creating a new era of cinematic possibilities. With the dire need of hyping up this new wave for the Marvel universe. The responsibility falls to none other than your favorite potty-mouthed mercenary, Deadpool, for what people might call the ultimate Marvel Experience that brings back the energy for superhero movies.
As the movie starts, you’re greeted with everything you’d expect from a Deadpool movie: blood soaking action sequences jam packed with Wade Wilson’s signature vulgar humor. Over the top fourth wall breaking and a bit of dance moves here and there just for the giggles. Just when you think it can’t get any more meta, they take it to the next level. But hey, there’s nothing quite like dropping F-bombs at Disney while slicing your enemies.
Of course, as the title suggests, Hugh Jackman is back in his most beloved role, Wolverine, since his character retirement in 2017’s Logan. Teaming up with his frenemy, Deadpool, this duo delivers a dynamic mix of bloody punches and banter. Their chemistry is electric, proving that opposites really do attract. This movie offers the ultimate and much-needed glow-up since 2009’s X-Men Origins. Combining action and humor in a way only these two characters can, it goes to show that these two were born to be these characters.
As the self-proclaimed Marvel Jesus, Deadpool did, in fact, make miracles happen. Using his powers and baby knife to bring an array of surprising cameos and Easter eggs. Fans of the X-Men franchise will certainly grip their seats for this one. If you’re crossing your fingers for a more complex and in-depth story, you might rather be looking for something else. The plot is pretty straightforward, and the villain is rather generic. However, the movie is packed with a lot of fan service, making the film super enjoyable despite its simplistic and rushed storyline.
Deadpool & Wolverine pays homage to the “forgotten” age of Marvel, serving as a love letter to the early fans of the MCU. Bringing these beloved characters back into the spotlight to celebrate them once again makes it a true crowd-pleaser. To truly have a great experience, this movie is meant to be watched in a theater filled with fellow geeks and comic book fans. Definitely a must-see for those who cherish Old School Marvel.
