Argentina, 1985″ (Prime Video) – Movie Review by Rafy Mediavilla (@Rmediavilla).

Argentina, 1985 is inspired by the true story of Julio Strassera, Luis Moreno Ocampo, and their young legal team of unlikely heroes in their David-vs-Goliath battle, in which, under constant threat, they dared to prosecute Argentina’s bloodiest military dictatorship against all odds and in a race against time to bring justice to the victims of the Military Junta.

When Argentina, 1985 was originally announced and subsequently acquired by Amazon Prime Video, I had many reasons to be excited. As somebody that is a fan of anything that is based on a true story the whole backstory behind Argentina, 1985 sold it for me. Then we add the fact that Ricardo Darín in the lead role and this movie is Argentina’s bid to compete for the Oscar for Best International Feature, then I knew this was something special something that everybody needed to watch.

For context only, Argentina, 1985 can be best described as “The Trial of the Chicago 7” of Argentina. The trailer truly does not prepare you enough to grasp how deep the story of the movie goes into recreating the horrifying situations these people went through during the trial. What writer and director Santiago Mitre did is close to masterpiece storytelling. He combines dramatizations of the tellings of what happened during the trials with actual footage photos that he could get his hands on from those times. From beginning to end the movie is an emotional ride, we are truly presenting the actual events visually Mitre did an excellent job at directing the performances of the victims where you could feel every bit of pain by the performances of the actors that had tough responsibility of telling the story of these people. It is a two-hour and 20 minutes movie and during the whole runtime of it, you feel the excruciating pain these people went through.

It would be unfair to the cast if I only singled out Ricardo Darín performance. While he truly carried the film from start to finish without the emotional performances of the supporting cast what Ricardo Darín did would have gone unnoticed without the impeccable work of writer and director Santiago Mitre.

It is no secret that Argentina has always been one of the top contenders when it comes to international movie production, and this movie must be up there with Argentina’s best movies ever produced. Just by looking at the trailers and the promos you can see that the producers of the movie went all out in recreating the 1985 times to tell this story. it’s obvious a movie shines in all technical aspects, From the production design hair styling, and wardrobe, all of it was just perfect.

Argentina, 1985 is a must-see movie regardless f you get to see it in theaters or on Prime Video this is one of those movies that comes once in a few years. it’s a master class a movie production it’s a master class in performances a master class in storytelling.
