Queen Ramonda, Shuri, M’Baku, Okoye and the Dora Milaje fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia and Everett Ross and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda.
It is absolutely a given that a follow up to Black Panther without Chadwick Boseman was going to be a difficult task. It is impossible for the MCU to move on we don’t know the introduction of the Black Panther so director Ryan Coogler Hands full in bringing closure to T’Challa’s arc, and giving new life, and new definition to whoever becomes the new Black Panther something that he does superbly in Wakanda Forever.
Coogler continues to use the exact same formula he established with Black Panther both story wise and visually. While visually the cinematography and the photography paint another beautiful look at Wakanda and its people. Story wise a neighborhood foe emerges and threatens Wakanda. Which gives way for a new Black Panther to rise with a new found sense of closure and belonging.
just by looking at the trailers we knew for a fact that this movie what’s going to be emotional from beginning to end. Wakanda’s are not sure of their future without their king, and big sense of grief is still in the air. During the 2 hours and 41 minutes of runtime the void T’Challa left plays a huge role in the story. And by the end of it we clearly understand that this whole story was just a big tribute to the impact and the legacy Chadwick Bosaman left behind.
Again, much like Black Panther in Wakanda Forever the performances by the whole cast shine. From Micheala Coel to Lupita Nyong’o to Letitia Wright, all of them gave heartfelt performances with their characters. yet if I must single out to performances without a doubt it has to be Angela Bassett performance, and Tenoch Huerta outstanding performance as Nomar. Where with Bassett you could see the pain and grief in her performance, with Huerta you could see he flat out on his role.
Yet a feel this movie may not sit well with everyone. It works as intended as a heartfelt tribute to Chadwick Boseman, but many things in my book just didn’t make any sense. The pension between the Wakanda’s and the Talocan seem force. The involvement of the Americans in the story plays no role in the end. And it seems that everything that happened in the end was forgotten.
While I completely understand the whole that Chadwick Boseman left with his departure. If this was going to be the strategy to reintroduce the Black Panther into the MCU since these events. I feel turning Wakanda Forever into a Disney+ Original series would have worked better if taken the structure of the film as it is. The runtime is just unjustifiable, is a deeply emotionally packed movie which I’m pretty sure a lot of MCU fans are not ready for. And in the end, it truly does not hype up whatever there is to come for the next phase of the MCU.
